Learn the History of Buda Castle
The first royal castle on the hill was established under King Béla IV in the 13th century, following the Mongol invasion of 1241–1242. The palace was expanded and rebuilt over time, and its present complex reflects medieval, Baroque, and later architectural layers. Today, the Royal Palace area is home to major cultural institutions.
Visit Matthias Church

Built between 1895 and 1902, this neo-Romanesque terrace is known for its seven towers, traditionally associated with the seven Magyar tribes. It is a separate landmark from the Royal Palace, though both are within the Castle District.
