Explore Shanghai Old Street and Yuyuan Garden
Walk through Shanghai Old Street, a historic-style commercial street along Fangbang Middle Road, near the old town’s shops and cultural landmarks. The wider Old City area has a history stretching back centuries, while the street’s current storefronts and visitor businesses reflect its later commercial development.
Nearby, visit Yuyuan Garden, a classical Chinese garden begun in 1559 by Pan Yunduan during the Ming Dynasty. Explore its pavilions, ponds, rockeries, and the Jiuqu Bridge, which offers views across the pond toward Huxinting Teahouse. The adjoining City God Temple and Yuyuan bazaar are separate but nearby stops.
Compare Xintiandi and Tianzifang
Discover Xintiandi, where restored shikumen buildings meet contemporary restaurants, shops, and cultural spaces. Or explore Tianzifang, known for its narrower lanes, galleries, craft shops, cafés, and buildings where some residents still live. Each offers a different way to experience Shanghai’s architectural heritage.
See the Bund and Rockbund
Take in The Bund, a historic waterfront lined with buildings that reflect Shanghai’s former international settlement and commercial past. Across the Huangpu River, views open toward the modern skyline of Pudong. Nearby Rockbund, at the northern end of the Bund near the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, brings together restored historic buildings and contemporary cultural spaces.
Add a Temple or Museum Visit
Some itineraries include Jade Buddha Temple, a Buddhist temple in Putuo District. As it is outside the Old City and Bund area, check whether transportation and enough visit time are included.
If you would like to visit the Shanghai Museum, confirm which location is on the itinerary. The Shanghai Museum East in Pudong has permanent galleries for ancient bronzes, jade, and ceramics, while the People’s Square Museum is a separate venue in Huangpu District with different galleries and exhibitions. Compare Historic Shanghai Tour Options
Tours can differ in the sites visited, walking distance, transportation, guide language, and time at each location. Some full-day packages may last around eight hours, but visiting all the districts and museums listed above may require more time or a carefully selected route. Hotel pickup and drop-off depend on the package.
Compare the itinerary details to decide whether you prefer to focus on the Old City and Yuyuan Garden, explore shikumen neighbourhoods, or add a museum or temple farther away.
