Learn How Gaudí Transformed the Project
Construction began in 1882 under architect Francisco de Paula del Villar. Antoni Gaudí took over in 1883 and developed a radically different vision, combining Gothic inspiration with the organic forms and craftsmanship of Catalan Modernisme. The basilica’s plan follows a Latin cross, with architectural details inspired by nature.
Discover the Three Monumental Facades
Explore the Nativity, Passion, and Glory facades, each presenting a different part of the basilica’s story. The Nativity Façade features elaborate natural forms and sculpted details. The Glory Façade is designed as the principal entrance, but it remains under construction, so it is not yet a completed visitor entrance.
Inside, admire the soaring columns, branching forms, and colourful stained glass. On the exterior, Gaudí’s stonework and decorative materials combine architecture with references to the natural world.
See the Tower of Jesus Christ
On February 20, 2026, the Tower of Jesus Christ reached its planned height of 172.5 metres, completing the tower’s exterior. Its height has made the Sagrada Família the tallest church building in the world. The basilica as a whole is still being completed, including work on the Glory Façade.
Plan Your Sagrada Família Visit
A visit may take around 1–3 hours, depending on whether you explore the interior, join a guided tour, or have a ticket that includes tower access. The nearby public plazas are outside the basilica, and entry to the building requires an appropriate ticket. Check the current ticket details and visit time before choosing a tour. Hotel pickup and drop-off depend on the package.
