Explore Zurich’s Historic Old Town
Walk through Zurich’s Old Town, where medieval lanes, guild houses, riverside streets, and historic churches reveal the development of Switzerland’s largest city.
Admire the facades of the Grossmünster, Fraumünster, and St. Peter’s Church, while learning how religion, commerce, and civic life shaped Zurich’s historic centre.
See Zurich’s Famous Churches
The Grossmünster is one of Zurich’s defining landmarks, known for its Romanesque architecture and twin towers. The Fraumünster combines Romanesque and Gothic elements and is famous for stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall and Augusto Giacometti.
At St. Peter’s Church, look for the celebrated clock face, approximately 8.7 metres in diameter and often described as one of Europe’s largest church clock faces. Interior access and tower visits depend on opening arrangements and the selected itinerary.
Cruise Across Lake Zurich
For a wider view of the city, add a Lake Zurich boat cruise. Depending on the route and schedule, enjoy views of the waterfront, surrounding hills, historic buildings, and lakeside communities.
Boat departures, duration, seasonal timetables, weather conditions, and available stops vary. A cruise is not automatically included in every Zurich city tour.
Visit the Lindt Home of Chocolate
Continue to the Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg for an optional museum and tasting experience. The attraction explores chocolate production, Swiss confectionery history, and Lindt’s brand heritage.
Kilchberg lies outside central Zurich, so allow additional time for transport. Museum entry, tasting arrangements, and boat or ground transportation should be confirmed before booking.
Discover the Swiss National Museum
If you have extra time, visit the Swiss National Museum near Zurich’s main railway station. Its collections explore Swiss cultural history, art, design, crafts, historical objects, and everyday life.
The museum is separate from the Old Town route, so it works best as an optional extension rather than an assumed stop on every city tour.
Hotels and Key Attractions
When planning your Swiss getaway to Zurich, pinpointing the right neighborhood base ensures you can effortlessly glide between world-class history and striking alpine vistas. If you want to dive straight into the country's rich cultural timeline, staying near the Swiss National Museum is incredibly strategic. Choosing a central gem like Ruby Mimi, Hotel Felix, or the historic Marktgasse Hotel also pulls double duty, placing you within a brief 500-meter walk of the iconic twin towers of the Grossmünster and the stained-glass masterpieces of the Fraumünster. Meanwhile, art enthusiasts looking to beat the morning crowds to Switzerland's top modern art collection should look toward the Hottingen district; Swiss Night by Fassbind is a strategic hotel, positioning you a spectacular 234 meters from the front doors of the Kunsthaus Zurich.

Getting Around
Zurich is compact and easy to explore on foot, especially around the Old Town, Bahnhofstrasse, Lake Zurich, Schanzengraben, and the Limmat River. However, destinations such as Waid, Uetliberg, and some lakeside areas involve longer journeys or steep climbs, making public transportation a convenient alternative. The ZVV network integrates trams, buses, trains, boats, and selected funiculars and cable cars across Zurich and the surrounding region. Service frequency and operating hours vary by line, so travelers should check the official ZVV or VBZ timetable rather than rely on a fixed schedule of every seven to ten minutes from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. ZVV Timetable and Travel Information
Night services operate on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as before public holidays and during selected special events. These include night buses and night S-Bahn services, with routes and departure points varying across the network; Bellevue is important for some city services but is not the universal departure point for every night route. Tickets can be purchased from ZVV ticket machines, online, through the ZVV app, or at other authorized sales points. The machines provide route and ticket options, while the ZVV journey planner shows current departures, connections, and service changes. VBZ Night Network ZVV Ticket Machines
The Zürich Card offers unlimited second-class travel for 24 or 72 hours on trams, buses, trains, boats, and selected cable cars within the covered Zurich fare zones. It also includes the airport-to-city journey, travel to Uetliberg, selected lake and Limmat cruises, and free or reduced admission to many museums, including the Swiss National Museum, Strauhof, and Museum Rietberg. The card is valid only within the specified zones, so travelers planning excursions farther away should check whether an additional ticket is required. Taxis and rental cars are available, but walking, cycling, and public transportation are usually the most practical ways to experience Zurich. Zürich Card - ZVV
